BIBLE STUDY - THE GREAT TRIBULATION.

There are some Christians that do believe they will also have to go through the great tribulation. May God bless their souls this is not what the Bible teaches. There are no Scriptures to proof this statement. There is Scriptural proof however, that Christians will have a choice. Jesus was talking about the last days of Jerusalem, the great tribulation and the Jews, He referred to the importance of ‘watching’ in the book of Luke 21:36, “Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man”.

The great tribulation is mainly God the Father’s dealings with the Jewish nation. The Bible also referred to the tribulation of the Jews at the end time as; ‘Daniel’s Seventieth Week’ and ‘the time of Jacob’s trouble’. We do not have a Scripture verse that read the great tribulation will last for seven years. However if we look at the prophesies in the book of Daniel 9:24 - 27 and in Revelation 11:2, 3 we will see that the duration of the tribulation will be 7 years. The time mentioned in Revelation 11:2, 3 are mentioned in months and even in days. The Bible teaches us that the tribulation will start shortly after the ‘Rapture of the Church’. See my Bible study on ‘The rapture of the Church’, and ‘The Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ’.

I must mention the fact that the Antichrist will be revealed shortly after the rapture of the Church has taken place. Israel will be undergoing persecution by the whore and the ten kings of the Roman Empire who are dominated by the whore until the middle of the Week. Antichrist will come out of one of the ten kingdoms and he will make a seven years covenant with Israel assuring them of protection as a nation, Daniel 9:27. Antichrist will need Jewish moral and financial support to be able to be established.

1.     God’s purpose for the great tribulation:

1.1   To cause Israel to flee into the wilderness of Edom and Moab and to be so persecuted by the nations that they will have to turn to God for help, Isaiah 16:1 - 5; Ezekiel 20:33 - 35; Daniel 11:40; 12:7; Hosea 2:14 - 17; Matthew 24:15 - 31; Revelation 12.

1.2       To purify Israel off all rebels, Ezekiel 20:33, 34; 22:17 - 22; Zechariah 13:8, 9; Malachi 3:3, 4.

1.3   To judge Israel and punish them for their rejection of the Messiah and make them accept Him when He is going to come back to earth the second time, Ezekiel 20:33, 34; Zechariah 12:10 - 13:9; 14:1 - 15; Matthew 24:15 - 31.

1.4      To purify Israel and bring the Jews back to the place where God can fulfill the everlasting covenants made with the Jewish fore - fathers, Isaiah 2:6; 3:26; 16:1 - 5; 24:1 - 25; 26:20, 21; Ezekiel 20:33, 34; 22:17 - 22; Romans 11:25 - 29.

1.5       To bring Israel into the bond of the new covenant, Ezekiel 20:33, 34; 36:24 - 28; Jeremiah 30:3 - 11; Zechariah 12:10 - 13:9; Malachi 4:3, 4.

1.6   To bring Israel to complete repentance, Zechariah 12:10 to 13:9; Romans 11:26 - 29; Matthew 23:39.

1.7  To judge the nations for their persecution of Israel, Isaiah 63:15; Joel 3; Revelation 6:1 - 19:21.

2.     The two, time - divisions of the great tribulation.

The great tribulation is divided in - to, two; 3½ years plus 3½ years.

2.1   The first division takes place in the first 3½ years of the 7 years and will be a standard tribulation for the Jewish nation because of protection from the Antichrist. This division of the tribulation takes in the fulfillment of Revelation 6:1 ; 9:21. The judgments of the sixth seal and first trumpets comes in this period, thus providing tribulation during this time.

2.2   The second division takes place in the second 3½ years of the 7 years and can be referred to as the ‘Great Tribulation’ for the Jewish nation. Antichrist, who will protect Israel the first three and a half years, will break his covenant with the Jews and become their most bitter enemy. Antichrist will then try and destroy all the Jews, which calls for the judgments of the seven vials of the last three and a half years. This part of the tribulation includes the fulfillment of Revelation 10:1 - 19:21.

This is the time where Jesus said in Matthew 24:15 - 31 and Mark 13:14 - 23, “Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place, then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let him who is on the housetop not come down to take anything out of his house. And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. But woe to those who are pregnant and those with nursing babies in those days! And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, not ever shall be”.

3.    Will the tribulation be world - wide ?

The Bible is clear that the Antichrist will not reign over the whole world, but only over the ten kingdoms or countries formed inside the Roman Empire. Most of the judgments of the trumpets and vials are stated as being only upon a third or fourth part of the earth, Revelation 8:7 - 12 and upon the men which had the mark of the beast and upon the seat or throne of the beast and his kingdom, Revelation 9:16 - 2, 10, 12. The sixth trumpet kills only a third part of men, Revelation 9:12 - 21.
