BIBLE STUDY - THE CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS.
said in John 12:32, "And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw
all peoples to Myself". What did Jesus mean? The answer is in the next
verse; 33, 'This He said, signifying by what death He would die'. So Jesus was
saying that the cross on Calvary would lift Him up from the earth. Jesus foresaw
the millions of people who would flock to Him when He had been crucified as the
universal Saviour, meeting all needs of all mankind, and so He said these words.
we preach Jesus Christ crucified and the power in His atoning blood, we will
draw men unto Him. A theology without a crucified Saviour, and without the blood
of Jesus Christ will not draw true believers. It will never be able to meet the
need. When Jesus died on the cross He crossed the barrier between Jews and all
those that live on the earth. So we see that Jesus died lifted on a cross that
everyone could see. He died for all nations of this earth. This is why
Christianity is a universal religion.
has drawn all men unto Himself. Not to a set of laws as in the Old Testament but
to a Person, Himself. Jesus Christ lifted up on the cross has redeemed us from
the curse of the law by 'becoming a curse for us', Galatians 3. Any preacher
that teaches anything under the law is not from God, he might preach Jesus
Christ but is not in the plan of God. We must obey God not man. Any preacher
that is not in the plan of God knows exactly what I said here. They know that
God does not do supernatural things through them. Just think of all the people
that they have led astray. The church or denomination cannot save; a system
cannot save only Jesus and Him alone who died for everyone - those who will
THE CRUCIFIED CHRIST LIFTED UP FROM THE EARTH DRAWS ALL TO HIMSELF:
of all, Jesus crucified draws all men to Himself because He is the deepest,
greatest and most fundamental need of man. A Saviour. A Saviour from what? A
Saviour from the guilt of sin. All have sinned and come short of the glory of
God. The Bible teaches if we accept and confess Jesus Christ as our personal
Saviour we are justified in God's eyes. All our sins are then washed away and
thrown in the deepest see and God will never go fishing there, - ever. But if we
do not accept Jesus Christ everything will be uncovered one day. So those with a
lot of bad things in your life, be warned.
WAS CHRIST'S LOVE AND NOT THE NAILS THAT KEPT HIM ON THE CROSS:
Christ died for us on the cross because of His wonderful love and the wondrous
love of God the Father for us. We all know John 3:16. The Prophet Isaiah wrote
these words 700 BC; "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was
bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by
His stripes we are healed", Isaiah 53:5. Take this verse and were it says
'our' change it to 'my', - how wonderful.
Bible teaches us that the law of the Jews at that time did not have the
authority to give the death penalty to a person, John 18:31. That is why the
Jewish leaders used the Roman laws to judge and rule the crucifixion of Jesus
Christ. The problem is that the Roman law did not find any quilt in Christ. The
Jewish leaders insisted they wanted Him crucified. God had sent Jesus to the
Jewish people but they did not accept Him. That shows us how far they have
wandered away from the living God. So they had the Roman soldiers to crucify
Jesus Christ. The soldiers drove nails through His hands and feet. When the
soldiers crucified Jesus He said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not
know what they do", Luke 23:34.
BURIED JESUS AFTER HIS BODY DIED ON THE CROSS?
Read in John 19:38 - 42, 'After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of
Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take the
body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of
Jesus, and Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a
mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds. Then they took the body of
Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the
Jews is to bury'. So, Jesus had a Jewish funeral. Note that Nicodemus, of John 3:1 and John 7:50 became a disciple of Jesus.
DID JESUS DO WHEN HIS BODY WAS IN THE GRAVE?
Bible teaches that he went to set the captives free. He went to preach to the
spirits in prison. We read in 1 Peter 3:18 - 22, 'For Christ also suffered
once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put
to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, by whom He also went and
preached to the spirits in prison, who formerly were disobedient, when once the
longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being
prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water".
See also 1 Peter 4:6, 'For this reason the gospel was preached to the dead'.
What happened to them after that Jesus Christ preached to them? Matthew 27:50 - 53, 'Jesus, when He had cried out again with a loud voice, yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many'. Note that after the resurrection of Jesus they came out of the graves. There are many more Scriptures to prove that no person from Adam and Eve will one day have an excuse if they have to stand before the living God to give account for what they did.
