BIBLE STUDY - HOW TO STAY A CHRISTIAN.

We did not do anything to earn salvation. Salvation is a gift from God the Father. There is no such thing as; once saved always saved. We have to stay in Jesus Christ to be able to earn eternal life. We read in 1 John 2:28, ‘And now, little children abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming’. Jesus warned and told us that some can fall away, Matthew 7:21 - 23; Matthew 13:20 - 21; Luke 8:13. Paul speaks of those, concerning faith have made shipwreck,1 Timothy 1:19. As having cast of their first faith by going aside after Satan, 1 Timothy 5:12 - 15. Having erred concerning the faith, 1 Timothy 6:21. Many can part from the faith, Acts 14:22; 1 Timothy 2:15; 4:1, 5:8 - 15; 6:10 - 21; 2 Timothy 2:18; Hebrews 3:6; 12:14; 6:11 - 12; 10:22 - 28. Men are repeatedly told to continue in faith, Acts 14:22; Colossians 1:23; 2:6 - 7. Satan is our enemy. He hates all Christians. He is walking around like a roaring lion, 1 Peter 5:8, ‘Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour’.

Jesus prayed more than any person on earth will ever pray. 'Prayer is the breath of the soul'. The person that does not pray is spiritually dead. Prayer is to draw God the Father's attention. Prayer is to talk to God the Father. If one talks to God the Father one has to be in His presence. Someone once said that the best time to pray is at night when all the other brothers and sisters are asleep, that time God is not to busy. There are two ways to begin the day, with or without prayer. Are you living where God answers prayer? 1 Peter 3:12, "For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers". There is mighty power in prayer. Mark 11:24, "Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them". Do not limit your faith concerning anything that you want from God, if you do, you will receive a limited answer. When you pray concentrate on what you say and do not allow your mind to wander away from God. When you pray make sure that you do not carry on unless you are sure that you are in the presence of God. We can close our eyes to concentrate better but there is no Scripture that reads that we must close our eyes if we pray. We should not ask; how much time may I spend in prayer? We must ask, how much time may I spend in prayer without neglecting other duties in life? I am going to say something here; if you do not pray one hour out of the twenty - four per day you are not even half a Christian. You may not like this but it is true.

It is very important for us to know what God the Father expects from us. Paul said to Timothy; “All Scriptures is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work”, 2 Timothy 3:16. This does not mean all different translations of the Bible, make sure you are going to use the right translation. The Holy Spirit revives the contents of the Scriptures in our hearts. Some ignorant people refer to the tangible book as the “Word of God”, the Word is in the contents of the Bible. The sooner you accept this statement the faster you will grow in the knowledge of the Scriptures. We must accept everything the Bible teaches not just certain teachings. If your minister or pastor teach something which is not what the Scriptures teach and you accept this, you will be judged in the future by this very same Bible, not him or her. Are you in a situation where you can recognize the truth. John 8:32, ‘And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free’. If we do not know the truth, how can we be made free?

People must see Jesus Christ in our lives. ‘Pursue peace with all men, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord’, Hebrews 12:14. ‘Be holy, for I am holy’, 1 Peter 1:16. To be holy is to live like Jesus lived. To live, an honest life. 2 Corinthians 5:10, ‘For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad’. Romans 14:10 - 12, ‘For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written: As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then each of us shall give account of himself to God’. See also Philippians 2:9 - 11. We read in Hebrews 4:13, ‘And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account’. Luke 12:3, ‘Therefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops’.

‘Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you’, Matthew 28:19 - 20. ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature’, Mark 16:15. Paul writes in Romans 1:16, ‘For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes’. We read in 1 Corinthians 9:16b, ‘Yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel’. Paul said to Timothy, in 2 Timothy 4:2, “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season”. We do not have to worry what to say to others if we want to testify. Jesus said in John 7:38, “He  who believes in Me, as the Scriptures has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living waters” Read James 5:20, ‘Let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from the death and cover a multitude of sins’. See Proverbs 11:30, ‘And he who wins souls is wise’.

A local church may be defined as a company of redeemed people in a community, who unite themselves voluntarily together as a part of the universal church for the purpose of establishing themselves in the faith of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to evangelize their community and to propagate the gospel to the end of the earth. Local churches are mentioned many times in the New Testament. A local church may consist of two or three people, Matthew 18:20; Romans 16:5; 1 Corinthians 16:19. The Bible teaches that the believers are the ‘house of God’ and the ‘temple of God’. He makes His abode with - in us. I do believe that we have to have a building, or a place where we can have fellowship. The building is to keep us from the weather and to accommodate a multitude. The sole purpose of the church is to do what Jesus Christ did on earth. The body of Jesus is being formed by the Holy Spirit. The church was founded when the ministry of Jesus Christ started, not on the day of Pentecost as many believe. This statement is clear as can be seen from Scriptures such as 1 Corinthians 12:28, "God has set some in the church, first apostles, etc". When did Jesus set up the apostle, certainly not on the day of Pentecost. On the day of Pentecost 3000 people were added, a few days later 5000 more were added. People are still being added daily, this addition will carry on until the day Christ will come in the air to take away ‘His New Testament Church’, together in the clouds with the redeemed of all ages past, 1 Thessalonians 4:13 - 17.
